Angiosarkoma

This 41 year old patient suffered a syncope 4 months before the CMR study. Repeated investigation of a pericardial effusion with centesis, computed tomography and echocardiography did not show a tumor. Of note, pericardial fluid did not contain any hint for malignoma.

The CMR study showed a paracardiac mass within a pericardial effusion. Echocardiography and CMR showed a perforation of the roof of the right atrium. Coronary angiography showed a tumor perfused by a pathologic vessel originating from the right coronary artery. After resection of the tumor, a pericardial patch was placed to give shape to the right atrium. Histology showed an angiosarcoma. The tumor could not be resected totally. The patient is awaiting cardiac transplantation.
