Disposing of near 1’000 patients with followup up to 20 years we looked at the relative diagnostic importance of CAC compared to carotid plaques (cTPA, carotid total plaque area). Especially women we find significant amounts of carotid plaque without coronary calcifications (24%) and preliminary outcome data suggest that cTPA is non inferior to CAC when average cohort observation time is about 10 years.
